"i thought I understood it, but I didn’t.
only the smudgness of it.

of you and me."

He isn't a combination of all the "good" parts of the other guys.  He isn't "all they were and more."  He is nothing like they were.  He is all they were not.  Instead of the witty, strategic, heavy, uncertain romantic politics I had found myself endlessly running for, hoping to get elected,  he offered me a job doing what I am passionate about.  Like a retired senator who moves to the coasts and paints the sunrise every morning.  (Don't some retired senators do that?) Somewhere in between borders I was not supposed to cross and the game I had learned how to play, he set me free to a world where I am known and loved.  Good impressions, being hard to get, flirting, being considered hot - not even on my mind.

I had no plan to make him want me.   Maybe that is why we fell in love.  I didn't fall in love with him.  And he didn't fall in love with me.  We fell in love with each other.  We drove in love, sang in love, talked mindlessly in love, prayed in love, adventured in love, laughed laugh's we'd never heard before in love, dreamed in love, watched reality TV in love, worked in love, cried in love, debated in love, made up new nicknames for each other in love, wondered in love, played in love, spilled water in love, got honked at in love, gave our time in love, stayed up way too late in love, hugged in love and fell in love. We're clumsy.

Tell me everything that happened
Tell me everything you saw

They had lights, inside their eyes
They had lights, inside their eyes

Please please tell me what they looked like
Did they seem afraid of you?

They were kids that I once knew
They were kids that I once knew

Did you touch them
Did you hold them
Did they follow you to town?

They make me feel I'm falling down
They make me feel I'm falling down

Was there one you saw too clearly
Did they seem too real to you?

They were kids that I once knew
They were kids that I once knew

Happy 600th post, little blog.
Today I am celebrating by going on a date with the boy who likes his scrambled eggs "unusually dry" with lots of pepper,  whose shoulders have a mind of their own on the dance floor, who I trust more then I trust anybody else I've ever known and who makes my name sound pretty when he says it.
(And who took me to see "Like Crazy" last weekend.)

ps. Seven twitter followers away from 600!

  5. Kristen:

Wow, this is a real godly movie, isn't it Kristen? I mean, sex before marriage, 2 people all over eachother that should not be. I am sure that Caleb enjoyed seeing a practically naked woman though, so oh well. Do you think everyone thinks that you and Caleb have stayed pure too, do you think we are all blind and dumb? Caleb came from a home solid and a home where they desired purity, modesty and godliness....... It is a shame when people call themselves Christians and don;t live like them. Shame on you. Also, shame on you for dressing like a tramp the good majority of the time and to be stirring up ungodly thoughts in men. Do Christianity a favor:stop telling the world you are one, because you do not look or behave like one. Shame on Caleb as well for dishonoring the Lord, his parents and his purity.

  6. hey sarah mccoy :D

no need to hide! feel free to e-mail me if you'd like... i have no problem talking directly with you if you don't have a problem talking directly to me. your blog/link doesn't provide any contact info and there is very little way to have a conversation. (Oh! Also, I too come from a "solid" home where "purity, modesty and godliness" was desired. I am almost daily stunned that God would allow me - would allow the both of us - to be placed in the loving, kind and happy homes we were placed in. God has been good to us. We are blessed truly beyond measure.)

So, "Sarah McCoy" offered this outrageous and ungodly series of self-righteous, personal judgments against you and your character from the secrecy and comfort of anonymity? Wow.

Nothing could be more contrary to the truth and essence of Christianity and the grace of God than these kinds of declarations made anonymously, publicly, and without substance. Truthfully, words and attitudes like those expressed by "Sarah" are about the only thing that Jesus openly despises and dismantles.

Your response is remarkably gracious and restrained, Kristen!

    Kristen,
I agree with Don. Your response was so full of grace. I have really enjoyed following your blog the last year or so. I greatly admire you for feeling free enough to share your faith, ideas, opinions, and artwork for all the world to see!

  9. Sarah McCoy,
It would seem that your judgment and condemnation of Kristen and Caleb was very unloving and un-Christlike; in the manner in which you spoke and in the fact that you are judging them at all. Matthew 7:1-5
IF there were really sin requiring rebuke, then brashly finger pointing on Kristen's photography blog is a highly inappropriate method and venue to use. It is certainly not in accordance with ANY of the directions that we, so called Christians, are told to follow in Matthew 18:15-17 "Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that `in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church; but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican." If you are concerned with Kristen and Caleb's wellbeing, than perhaps you should take a Biblical approach, as sited above.
And Kristen, your response was very gracious and loving! I'm inspired.

  10. You are wonderful. I hope that when I am older I find a boy like that. Have you ever considered taking up a writing job? It was beautiful.
Thanks for the many awesome experiences I've had at your blog and teaching me so much about photography. I've learned that true love really does happen from everything you've said. Thank you!

Sarah McCoy sounds like a truly awful and vicious person! I can't believe anyone would say such things about you, Kristen. I visit your blog all the time and think you are wonderful! :D
